Hagia Sophia
January 5, 2009

For almost a thousand years Justinian's church was the largest in the world. After that it stood for another five hundred years as the principle mosque of the Ottoman Empire. The building is as impressive as its history suggests and, despite the shabby state of much of the interior, the glory of the church's dome, marble, and mosaics is undeniable.
